"'You want to make a fortune all at once?'

He looked at her strangely, 'Yes," he answered firmly after a pause, 'a fortune all at once.'" (Fyodor Dostoyevsky, "Crime and Punishment")

=====================================

All at once. Is that the theme for our couple of generations or has it been a struggle since the beginning of time?

Human progress is based on dead bones. One or several people create something to the best of their potential at that time and then the children pick up all that data to bring it even further. Every generation adds more to the data pool. Although, the last 50 years has probably moved faster than any other time.

We've advanced so much that we actually have the luxury to bitch about gas prices. Although with luxury comes insanity. Morals, good ideas, thrown away for more luxury. In an effort to appeal our message to the world, we have lowered the human standard to...entertaining.

To live, we must now appease what the majority wants. A writer must write stupid lines to appeal to the fantasy that the world lives in to sell products or his own books. Musicians have to follow the popular trends and combine them to advance. Painters? Well, they rarely make dough but the majority likes warm colors, lots of light, and a cozy cottage by the water wheel.

All this progress and exchange of communications... just to pump waste into people's heads. When I first went on Disney's Epoch ride, the idea of vast communication and learning was exciting (I also liked the part where Rome was in flames, but the industrial revolution wasn't cool when they had that smiling kid printing papers.) On the up side, you can learn a lot from the internet without even leaving your room. But everywhere, the communication is used to reinforce fantasy, disillusion. People are weak, and to make money they are made to stay weak.

Will the world ever be a place of Open Mind, Open Heart, Open Arms? No, even though everything is constantly changing, it's still the same. Just watch Vh1 reviewing the decades, same bullshit, different outfit. Our children will laugh at the stupidity that we followed in our own time. And if it isn't the majority theme and it's stupid then it makes sense that all of it is a waste.

As long as there are always human beings, then the majority will always miss the high mark of human potential. There will always be emotions that control or lift us up. The imagination is the supreme force in the shaping of our world.

If we look at the world as a whole, then it's depressing and almost a certain doom. But if we look at ourselves and strive, then the people in our lives might be touched in some small way. If everyone knew that, then the whole might not be so gloomy. It's up to YOU and if you miss out, then who knows what disaster could happen.

Some might call this too serious, but those are morons. It can't be done all at once, but it needs time to grow. Little by little until an entire picture forms. I swear, the hearts and minds of people are very important. Life is important. "Seek Peace and Pursue it" if anything, I think that might be the most important philosophy in Judaism.

With one person seeking, we could make things better. Maybe history might not see it, but a fortune not all at once. Maybe politics will always be run by crooks, men will kill out of hate or ideas, but I think that one person matters. Amidst all the bullshit, that one person can help another person. I don't believe in ideal states, but I believe in individuals.
