Hum hum.... Monday was interesting day. I hit the street with my feet. No car, but thankful for not driving because of the huge traffic jam at 3pm because of some guy flipping over his car. So I walk about 2 miles past all these cars, taking in all the CO. You can really feel the pollution if you don't have air filters. It's just sticky nasty on a summer day of 90. So I see a fruitshop and I figure I'll get an apple to eat as I walk (and spit the apple seeds on the highway so apple trees can grow and suck up the pollution...in my mind at least.) At the fruit stand is an 60 year old woman with a jewish star on. I think she said she was from the islands... I don't know, she was speaking fast. And I told her I was Jewish. That's when the nonstop talking began. It was all about the Messiah, that jews and nonjews would one day be one, come to my shul ect. Just smile and nod... people who keep talking like that aren't really interested in what you have to say anyways. It's a one-way convo. Might as well be a wall. But she gave me a lot of free samples of fruit and I walked out with two peaches and a Cantellope (or my mom called it a Mush Mellon from Georgia.) I really don't like Jews for Jesus anyways. Kinda just doesn't make sense. And she offered me a job and would recommend me to her boss. A job falls into my lap. So then I walk into a used book store, found nothing by Henry Miller (cause Sarah just gave me an excuse to finally buy Tropic of Cancer) and then left. Walked to the library, it was full of kids and soccer moms. I've never really liked any of the libraries in Jax, they just seem like they could get better books. Not sure why all the libraries are geared for kids. I guess they have the classics too. Maybe I'm just into more college type books. Our town is still sticksville. I read Danny's story about Thomas the drug using kid, then walked back the way I came. I realized that I was dying, so I went into Hopps for a cheap hamburger. When I walk in, I run into Donna. Donna was the girl who's boyfriend was in Iraq, lived with her abusive parents, and was trying to go back to school so she could be a nurse and not work at a deadend coffee shop. She's kinda spacey and cries a lot. It was cool to hear that she moved in with her bf's parents, now has a server job, is almost into nursing school, and she got engaged to the guy. Life just took a 180 for her (but why the hell did that guy go back to Iraq for? Whatever.) And after that, I got my 2nd job offer of the day to be a server. I never had 2 job offers within 4 hours of walking before. I don't think I'm going to take them though. I like the idea of having mobility this summer and if I get a job, I'm stuck here. Besides, my parents are worring about their own stuff right now so I might as well wait around in case they need me. I like traveling.
